You fall asleep fine. So why are you wide awake again at 3am?
You check the time. Work out how many hours are left. Turn the pillow over. Then start wondering how you’ll get through tomorrow if you don’t fall asleep now.
If this is the part of the night you struggle with, it deserves more than another list of bedtime tips. Start with the section on waking during the night, then explore the other sleep difficulties below and what’s inside Pure Rest.

You wake at 2–4am and can't get back down
Start with the part of the night you actually struggle with.
The familiar patternYou got to sleep. Now your eyes are open, you’re checking the clock, and tomorrow is already running through your head. Getting back to sleep is the part you want help with.
Before assuming a causeWaking at 3am does not, by itself, tell you that your cortisol is high or that you have a nutrient deficiency. If this keeps happening, speak with your GP about what may be contributing.
What Pure Rest uses
- KSM-66 Ashwagandha — 400mg, the standardised extract used in cortisol research, at the dose those studies used
- Lemon Balm — 400mg, traditionally used for nervous tension and studied alongside valerian for restlessness
- L-Theanine — 250mg, for calm without sedation
Ashwagandha is also the slowest-acting thing in the pouch. It's the reason the guarantee runs thirty nights and not seven.
What people actually report
"I've struggled with insomnia for years. I'd lie in bed staring at the ceiling until 2am. I've tried everything from melatonin, teas, even sleeping pills that just made me feel groggy the next morning. Pure Rest helps me to relax, fall asleep faster, sleep deeper, and wake up clear-headed."
"This stuff saved me. I'm a mum of two and stress keeps me up most nights. Since using Pure Rest, I've been getting proper deep sleep again. It's not harsh or overpowering, it just feels like my body finally remembers how to rest again."
"My anxiety gets really bad at night. My mind just won't shut up. I started taking Pure Rest and after about 4 nights, I noticed I wasn't overthinking as much before bed. It helps me drift off to sleep peacefully. I'm so grateful for this stuff."
You're exhausted but your head won't switch off
Tired and wired at the same time. The brake pedal isn't reaching the floor.
What's happeningGABA is the brain's main calming neurotransmitter. When there isn't enough of it reaching the right receptors, your body can be flat with fatigue while your mind is still running at daytime speed.
Why melatonin doesn't helpMelatonin tells your body what time it is. It doesn't quiet neural activity, so the thoughts keep going regardless of what the clock says.
What Pure Rest uses
- GABA — 500mg, supplied directly
- L-Theanine — 250mg, studied for supporting GABA activity and relaxed alpha-wave states
- Glycine — 3,000mg, an inhibitory amino acid in its own right — at a dose that simply will not fit inside a capsule
- Taurine — 1,000mg and Passionflower — 400mg for nervous system calm
"After about 4 nights, I noticed I wasn't overthinking as much before bed."
You sleep eight hours and wake up feeling like you didn't
Hours in bed and restorative sleep are not the same measurement.
What's happeningSlow-wave sleep — the deepest stage — is where most physical recovery happens, and it's the stage that thins out first with age and stress. You can log a full night and get very little of it.
Why melatonin doesn't helpMelatonin influences when you fall asleep, not the architecture of what happens afterwards. It's a start time, not a sleep quality.
What Pure Rest uses
- Glycine — 3,000mg, studied for sleep quality partly through its effect on core body temperature
- Magnesium Glycinate — 1,400mg (~200mg elemental), a highly absorbable form rather than the cheap oxide
- Taurine — 1,000mg, supporting the calm state deep sleep depends on
"Both of us were averaging less than 3hrs sleep a night. We now average at least 6, a lot of nights 8hrs."
One pouch. Seven mechanisms. Nothing hidden.

Your memory and focus have quietly got worse
Losing words mid-sentence. Rereading the same paragraph. Walking into rooms.
What's happeningA great deal of the brain's overnight housekeeping is tied to the deepest stages of sleep. Shorten those stages night after night and the effects show up during the day first as slower recall, then as difficulty holding a thought long enough to finish it.
Why melatonin doesn't helpGetting to sleep faster doesn't mean getting more slow-wave sleep. Melatonin moves the start line; it doesn't lengthen the stage where recovery happens.
What Pure Rest uses
- Glycine — 3,000mg, the same amino acid doing the deep-sleep work in deficiency 03
- L-Tryptophan — 500mg, a precursor your body uses in its own serotonin and melatonin pathways — supporting production rather than replacing it
- Magnesium Glycinate — 1,400mg, involved in hundreds of processes your body runs while you're asleep
Notice the overlap. Seven mechanisms, thirteen ingredients — several are doing work in more than one place, which is why the formula isn't forty items long.
Melatonin stopped working — or never really did
This is the one almost everybody on this page has already lived through.
What's happeningYou were probably never short of melatonin. The first four sections describe what was actually going on — a shifted cortisol curve, not enough calming signal, thin slow-wave sleep. Melatonin addresses none of those, so it works for a fortnight and then stops feeling like enough.
The part nobody mentionsCommon over-the-counter doses in Australia are far larger than the amounts used in sleep research, which is a significant part of why next-morning heaviness is so widely reported.
What Pure Rest does insteadNothing in the pouch is melatonin. Jujube seed and tart cherry support your own circadian signalling rather than overriding it, and the other eleven ingredients work on the mechanisms melatonin was never going to reach.
Already taking melatonin? Don't stop cold. Start Pure Rest alongside it, give it three to four weeks, then taper — halve the dose, halve it again, stop. If you're on prescription sleep medication, talk to your GP first.
You're short-tempered and you can't point at why
Snapping at people who didn't deserve it, then feeling worse about that too.
What's happeningEmotional regulation is one of the first things to go when sleep is short. Small irritations land harder than they should, and the gap between feeling something and reacting to it narrows. It's rarely attributed to sleep, because it doesn't feel like tiredness — it feels like a personality problem.
Why it compoundsPoor sleep makes stress harder to handle, and elevated stress makes sleep harder to get. Most people are somewhere inside that loop rather than at the start of it.
What Pure Rest uses
- KSM-66 Ashwagandha — 400mg, an adaptogen studied for stress and cortisol support
- Passionflower — 400mg and Chamomile — 250mg, two of the most-studied calming botanicals
- L-Theanine — 250mg, for calm that doesn't come with sedation
"It's not harsh or overpowering, it just feels like my body finally remembers how to rest again."
It takes you half an hour or more to fall asleep
Exhausted at 9pm, wide awake the moment your head hits the pillow.
What's happeningFalling asleep requires your body to hand over from its alert state to its rest-and-digest state. If you've spent the day in the first one — deadlines, screens, a stressful commute — that handover doesn't happen just because you've turned the light off.
Why melatonin doesn't helpIt signals that it's night. It doesn't do the physiological work of the handover, so you can be perfectly aware it's bedtime and still be lying there at 11:40.
What Pure Rest uses
- Glycine — 3,000mg, studied partly for its effect on core body temperature, which has to drop for sleep to begin
- Taurine — 1,000mg, supporting the shift toward a calmer state
- Valerian — 300mg and Magnesium Glycinate — 1,400mg, for physical wind-down
Take it 30–60 minutes before bed. Two scoops in 250ml of warm water. It's earthy rather than pleasant — there are no sweeteners in it, which is exactly what leaves room for the doses above.
The questions people ask us most.
How fast will I notice anything?
Falling asleep tends to get easier first — often within the first three to five nights. Fewer night wake-ups usually follow across weeks one and two.
The slower ingredients, ashwagandha in particular, are working on a three-to-four week timescale. That's why the guarantee runs thirty nights and not seven — a week isn't a fair test of this formula.
I've tried magnesium and ashwagandha on their own. How is this different?
Two ways. First, dose — most single-ingredient products sit well below what the research used, because a capsule physically can't hold three grams of glycine.
Second, coverage. The seven sections above describe different mechanisms. Magnesium alone addresses some of them and none of the others, which is usually why a single ingredient produces a partial result and then plateaus.
Does it contain melatonin?
No. Pure Rest is melatonin-free.
Jujube seed, tart cherry and L-tryptophan support your body's own production and signalling rather than replacing it. That's the difference between supporting a system and overriding it.
Will I feel groggy in the morning?
No. There are no sedatives and no high-dose melatonin in the formula — the two usual causes of next-morning heaviness. Glycine, L-theanine and magnesium glycinate support the transition into sleep without dampening your nervous system to get there.
Can I take it every night, long term?
Yes. Nothing in Pure Rest builds tolerance the way melatonin and sedatives do, because it supports your own sleep chemistry rather than substituting for it. No controlled substances, no benzodiazepines, nothing habit-forming.
The 8g serve on night one is the 8g serve in month twelve.
Can I take it with medication?
Pure Rest contains several actives — including L-tryptophan, valerian and passionflower — that may interact with prescription medications, particularly sedatives, benzodiazepines and SSRIs.
Speak with your doctor or pharmacist before combining Pure Rest with any prescription medication.
Will it help if my sleep issues are hormonal?
Perimenopause is one of the most common reasons people land on this page — the 3am wake-ups, the racing mind, the wired-but-tired feeling.
Pure Rest can't replace HRT if that's what you need. But ashwagandha, magnesium glycinate and L-theanine support the nervous system and stress response that go sideways during that window. Speak with your GP if your sleep issues are severe or ongoing.
How do I take it?
Two scoops (8g) into 250ml of warm water, almond milk or whatever you like, 30–60 minutes before bed.
No flavours or sweeteners by design — that's what leaves room for the doses. It's earthy. A popular mix is warm water, lemon and honey. Same time each night matters more than precision.
What if it doesn't work for me?

Ours is the opposite. Take Pure Rest every night for 30 nights. Build the ritual. Give your nervous system and your rhythm time to come back.
